2. Information we collect

2.1 Account information

When you create an account, we collect:

• A unique user identifier (UID) generated by Firebase

2.2 Data you contribute

As a community app, your contributions help other users. When you use PriceWise, we may collect:

• Product information you scan or submit (barcode, product name, brand name, price, quantity, unit, currency)
• Price updates you report for existing products
• Error reports you submit on product listings

2.3 Usage data (interactions)

To improve the app and personalise your experience, we record:

• Products you search for or scan (scan and search interactions)
• Barcodes that returned no result
• Interaction timestamps

Interactions are stored under your user account and are not shared publicly.

2.4 Camera permission

PriceWise requests access to your device camera solely to scan product barcodes. We do not capture, store, or transmit images or video.

2.5 Device information and Identifiers

We use Firebase App Check (Play Integrity) to verify that requests to our backend come from the legitimate PriceWise app. This process uses device integrity signals provided by Google Play Services. No personally identifiable hardware information is stored by us.

To help us understand how the app is used and to improve its performance, we also collect the Google Advertising ID (AD_ID). This identifier is used strictly for non-personalized app analytics and performance monitoring.

3. How we use your information

• To provide and operate the PriceWise service
• To display community-sourced product prices to all users
• To personalise your in-app history and experience
• To detect abuse, spam, or violations of our community guidelines
• To improve app performance and fix issues
• To comply with legal obligations

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

4.1 Community product data

Product names, brands, prices, and related product details that you submit are shared publicly within the app to all PriceWise users. Your user ID is stored internally but is not displayed to other users.

4.2 Service providers

We use the following Google / Firebase services to operate PriceWise:

• Firebase Authentication – account management
• Cloud Firestore – data storage
• Firebase App Check – security and fraud prevention
• Firebase Analytics – app usage analysis and performance monitoring

These services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

4.3 Legal requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.

5. Data retention

We retain your account data and contributions for as long as your account is active. Interaction history (scans, searches) is retained to provide personalised features. If you delete your account, your personal data is deleted within 30 days. Community-contributed product data (prices, product details) may be retained in anonymised form to preserve the integrity of the shared database.

6. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access – request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Correction – request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion – request deletion of your account and personal data
• Portability – request your data in a portable format
• Objection – object to certain types of processing

7. Children's privacy

PriceWise is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including Firebase App Check (Play Integrity), strict Firestore security rules, and encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS). While no system is completely secure, we take the protection of your data seriously.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of PriceWise after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
